You have a deadline: that email will send at the scheduled time unless you actively change it. The difference between this tactic and just "sleeping on it" or writing it as a draft is that it feels more like a real decision. You'll either feel a sense of relief or a sense of dread. Usually the problem happens with subject or body filters, or if you filter on from. This situation only occurs with filters that can match a message being sent, so if you're filtering on to: or from: it probably won't match when you reply to a message because to and from get reversed in the reply. Filters are also applied when you send a message, so if your sent message matches the filter, it ends up with the Inbox and Sent tags. A side effect of Never send to spam is to apply the Inbox tag to messages matching the filter.
A filter using the Never send to spam option can also lead to sent mail in the inbox.
